About the room
The rooms draws on the stories of Indian forefathers – who came to the island as indentured labour. Between 1824 to 1924 millions of immigrants were transited to Mauritius to work in sugar plantations. Sadly, in India they were told money could be found under rocks. The opposite was true. They worked very hard and were exploited. More information about this story can be found at the Aapravasi Ghat situated in Port- Louis near the Post office. Until 1987 it was known as immigration Depot or Coolie Ghat.
